Pizza, it became an obsession in our house. At one point we had a full week of pizza items for dinner! (Pizza Burgers, Pizza, Homemade Pizza using italian bread, etc.) You get it, we love pizza. When I eat pizza out, I expect it to be amazing...and Aldo's Pizza Pies is amazing.
Let's start with the appetizers...I'm not going to lie, I've only ever had one appetizer. The Garlic Knots, and yes...they are amazing! First of all, they simply taste good, then they drizzle them in this olive oil butter stuff, and cover them in parmesan cheese. Given the opportunity...opt for the Vodka sauce (located on the left in the photos) for dipping...so good. Judge me if you want, but these are worth it! Just make sure you don’t order these and their largest pizza without expecting some leftovers!
Now, on to the PIZZA! Alright, Aldo’s makes speciality pizzas that are not on the menu, but are typically on a chalkboard when you enter the restaurant. The pizza you see here is one of those pizzas. This was a Southwest chicken pizza (or something like that). Red onions, grilled chicken, green peppers and more made this pizza an outstanding surprise when we visited Aldos in Midtown. Always ask for vodka sauce for dipping your pizza (unless of course you order the “vodka pie”).
Mr. T Rex is an all meat wonder that would make any carnivore salivate. This one is made with tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage and meatballs. Best I can remember we ordered this pie when we were celebrating my niece’s birthday. This mountain of meat was the 18 inch pizza that we split among 4 adults, the little kids had the ever popular cheese pizza. While I like a good meatza, I don’t always love pepperoni because the additional grease it creates. But it was really good and the meat combination was perfect!
And, last but certainly not least, Tory and I ordered “The Memphis” pie, but I mistakenly ordered the 18 inch for the two of us. As you can see by our faces, we were overwhelmed! This pie is made like only Memphis would make pizza. This one is made with BBQ sauce, BBQ pork, mozzarella, red onion and cole slaw. Now all of this is good, but the BBQ Pork is delivered fresh daily by Central BBQ to each Aldo’s location which creates that one-of-a-kind Memphis flavor!
As you can guess, this isn’t a review of their complete menu, but just a few pies and appetizer that I’ve been able to enjoy over the last few years. So, if you’re downtown craving some pizza, or searching midtown for a different take on traditional pie, then visit Aldo’s pizza. Enjoy whole pizzas, pizza by the slice, salads, sandwiches and desserts (I’m usually too full to eat dessert, which is why I didn’t review). Alright, there you have it, the best local pizza joint I’ve found in Memphis! Go eat at Aldo’s!
